Modern surveyors might also use ground-based tripod mounted laser-scanners and computers/tablets. Modern total stations integrate GPS to provide precise position, navigation and timing (PNT). Digital electronic theodolites, referred to as total stations, combine distance measurement data from laser or infrared beams with internal/external electronic data logging.
